MaviKalem has been an active member of the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) Network since 2014, maintaining its commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability in humanitarian aid.
In this context, MaviKalem participated in the introduction meeting of Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) 2024 Turkish Edition and shared its work, experiences and approach in this field with other participants. The meeting, hosted by Nirengi Association with the contributions of MaviKalem and HelpAge International, shared the views of experienced practitioners and practical examples of how CHS can strengthen humanitarian interventions.
The meeting started with the moderation of Zeynep Sanduvaç from Nirengi Association.
Bonaventure Gbétôho Sokpoh from CHS Alliance gave the opening speech emphasizing the global impact of CHS. Attorney Arsal Karakaş gave information about the role of Nirengi Association in the CHS revision process. Dilara Umut Baycılı from MaviKalem gave examples of how CHS is applied in humanitarian interventions. Diana Hiscock from HelpAge International explained how CHS supports assistance programs for the elderly. İdil Türkmen Ayaydınlı from Nirengi Association provided important insights on the practical use of CHS in earthquake response in Hatay.
MaviKalem also contributed to the preparation of the CHS 2024 Turkish Edition for publication. MaviKalem and HelpAge International took an active role in the editing and adaptation of the document, which was translated voluntarily and independently by Nirengi Association, considering the disaster and emergency context of Turkey. In addition, Nirengi Association voluntarily undertook the design of the document in line with the original. The CHS team expressed its gratitude to all the organizations that contributed to the translation process.
What is the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and why is it important?
The Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) is a global standard that ensures the quality, accountability and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance. The nine commitments underpinning the CHS address the rights, needs and expectations of communities affected by disasters and crises:
- Ensure that communities receive dignified and effective humanitarian assistance.
- Strengthen accountability and transparency.
- Increase the impact of humanitarian action.
We are committed to integrating the principles of the CHS into humanitarian action. Thanks to the CHS 2024 Turkish Edition, it is now much easier for humanitarian actors in Turkey to access these principles.
